ALEXA MULLANE - FOUNDER OF POTION LONDON & START-UP BUSINESS CONSULTANT

One of the most amazing parts about launching HOLISTICA, has been meeting inspirational women who are running their own amazing businesses. And one that's really made such a mark on us is Alexa from Potion London. From the first time we connected, she's been extremely supportive and overwhelmingly generous, and we're thrilled to have partnered up in our upcoming Super-High Vibe Skin Cleanse, to share her fantastic supplements with you (FYI - she got them stocked in Harvey Nichols within the first 12 months of business - girlboss goals right there)! Meet her below and read all about her food philosophy, her handmade skin smoother, and why she chooses to coach other start-ups.

(ON WHO SHE IS + HOW HER BRAND CAME TO BE)

I’m Alexa, and I founded a luxury wellness brand called Potion London in 2016. I also help other small businesses start up and I do marketing consulting for other brands.

I had always wanted to own my own business, and I knew that I wanted it to be in the wellness or beauty industry. The idea came to me when I started trying to understand more about the supplements that I was taking myself, and ended up being more confused about what I should be taking. I also saw an opportunity for luxury beauty supplements that are more reasonably priced, and the ideas formed into Potion London.

    (ON HER HEALTH JOURNEY)

I have always been reasonably healthy, being brought up in a family that mostly always cooked meals from scratch and never did faddy diets or excluded any food groups. I never liked exercise at school but as I got older I realised that I love fitness and that it’s a celebration of how amazing our bodies are, rather than a punishment for eating that packet of biscuits!

I trained to be a yoga teacher a few years ago and I became a lot more interested in nutrition, especially gut health, and the healing power of food and nutrition.

    (ON HER FOOD PHILOSOPHY)

I live by the 80/20 rule - everything in moderation. It’s not healthy to eat 100% processed foods and have takeaways as a matter of course, but I also don’t think it’s healthy to have a diet that’s extreme in the opposite way, like a 100% raw food diet, or cutting out whole food groups if you’re not allergic or intolerant to them as it could mean missing out on vital nutrients. I don’t force myself to eat like this, it’s more of a natural tendency for me to eat a healthy, mostly vegetarian, non-processed diet most of the time, and then occasionally eat burgers, chocolate, pizza and cake when I feel like it. That way you never feel deprived!

    (ON COACHING START-UPS)

When I started up Potion I did everything from scratch and had no one to guide me through things like applying for trademarks or pitching to retailers. Everything was trial and error and I learnt so much, that I wanted to be able to help others going through the same processes. So I now spend half of my time consulting for small businesses and startups, whether it’s general business guidance or specific marketing and social media management; I love being able to work with other like-minded people and seeing the difference that I can make to help them propel their businesses forward.”

(ON DEFINING A SUPER-HIGH VIBE LIFE)

It means trying to achieve your full potential while looking after yourself and others. Working hard to achieve your goals is important, but not at the expense of your health or relationships. Take the time to eat healthily, sleep enough, exercise, spend time with loved ones and try to do some good for your community by doing something like volunteering. Being a good person, to yourself and to others is the most important thing.

(ON WHAT SHE'S MANIFESTING FOR 2018)

Health and happiness for everyone in my life.

    THE NON-NEGOTIABLES

FOODS SHE CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT... Cheese, red wine and chocolate.

SKIN-LOVE ESSENTIALS... The Potion London Collagen Boost (of course), HOLISTICA Balance Elixir, Gallinee hand cream, Nuori lip treat, and a moisturiser with an SPF. I also make my own homemade coffee scrub with vitamin E oil.

WELLNESS MUST-HAVES... Daily probiotics, regular yoga classes and funny friends that make you laugh a lot.

FAVOURITE POTION SUPPLEMENT... How can I choose!! Oh go on then, it’s The Collagen Boost. I find it keeps my skin plump and line-free and glowing so that I don’t need to wear makeup on my face.

ANY WORDS OF WELLNESS WISDOM... Don’t compare yourself to others. Whether it’s the person next to you at the gym or influencers on Instagram – everyone has their own sh*t going on and we only see an edited version of their lives. Comparing ourselves to their seemingly perfect lives can make us feel down for absolutely no reason.

MORNING ROUTINES... I think about the day ahead and what’s on my to-do list, have a stretch, take my probiotics and have a coffee. Some mornings I get up and go straight to the gym, others I’ll make breakfast of eggs on toast – it depends on how I feel and what I have on that day.

SELF-CARE SUNDAY... Having a lie-in, going to a yoga class, walking the dog, cooking a Sunday roast, having a long bath, and spending time with people I love.
