The leaves have changed, the hour's gone back, and all of a sudden we're all staring down the barrel of 7 weeks of pre-Christmas chaos.

But whether you love this time of year or not, one thing that we can all agree on is that cold and flu season is LOOMING.

When it comes to immunity, it's really a case of nailing the basics; eating our greens, getting good quality sleep, drinking enough water, staying away from too much sugar... however the reality is that this is so much easier said than done.

Through the lens of modern living, when we're run-down, stressed and crutching on caffeine for energy, it can literally feel like we're one stranger's sneeze away from the flu. One minute we're spinning all the plates, making it to brunch, and meeting deadlines with stress levels in check, and the next we're waking up sinuses stuffed, throat tingling and three sick days on the horizon.

 Enter the "Fix Up Fire Tonic"

Designed for the times when you find yourself on the cusp of a head-cold, this tonic is a modern twist on the age-old tradition of Fire Cider. Typically a spicy concoction that blends the healing powers of herbs with the powerful properties of vinegar and honey, yet takes 8 weeks to reach it's peak! I mean, really who has that kind of time when sickness is peaking? Modern problems require modern solutions...

THE FIX-YOURSELF FIRE TONIC


 APPLE CIDER VINEGAR - (1/3 cup) - Rich in friendly bacteria to support a happy healthy gut RAW HONEY (1/3 cup)   - Contains enzymes that boost digestion, soothe sore throats and boost sleep  LEMON JUICE (2 large lemons)  - Contain Vitamin C which encourages white blood cell production  CAYENNE (1 tsp dry)  - Assists with decongesting sinuses and boasts pain-relieving properties too  TURMERIC (1 tsp dry)  - Contains powerful curcumin which regulates cells of the immune system  BLACK PEPPER (generous grind)  - Works to activate the curcumin in turmeric for the body to use GARLIC (2 cloves, grated)  - Packs a strong antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial punch  GINGER ( 2-3 inches, grated)  -Powerful digestive aid and great for reducing nausea

HOW TO USE

Blend ingredients and keep refridgerated. This recipe makes a batch which can be kept for up to a month. 

Take either straight off the Tbsp or lengthen with hot water, up to six times a day if unwell.  Or take once daily preventatively during the winter months. I've even seen it added to bone broth during my time to New York so feel free to experiment.

The ingredients can have a potent detoxifying effect so always listen to your body and alter as required.
